North East roofing business expanding into Yorkshire following potential £6m turnover

Birtley-based Roofclad Systems, specialists in the design and installation of roofing and cladding systems, is expanding into Yorkshire with the creation of a second office and warehouse in Leeds.

Since David Tilley took ownership of the business in 2014 acquiring it for an undisclosed sum, it has flourished with turnover set to exceed £6m and more than 50 full-time staff on its books.

Roofclad has continued to pick up a number of major roofing contracts in the Yorkshire area over the last year, one of the most recent to complete being a £250k roofing contract for Rosti at Stamford Bridge.

The new base will allow Roofclad to get a firmer foothold in the North of England and Yorkshire areas.

Alex Tilley, managing director, said: “We get a lot of enquiries from Yorkshire and beyond which, until now, we have serviced from our base in the North East, so it just makes sense to set up an office further South.

“Our new office was formerly occupied by a roofing contractor, when our chairman, David Tilley, bought it some years ago. It gives us 900 sq ft of office space with an adjoining 2,500 sq ft warehouse, which will allow us to take on some big contracts.

“The office is in a far better location than our Birtley base in terms of its access to motorways, being located south of Leeds and near the M62/M1 corridors and it is also big enough to give us scope for future expansion.

“We are committed to creating new jobs - starting with a contracts manager, an office administrator/secretary and some direct operatives, which we hope to appoint in the not to distant future, depending on new projects coming in.”

In the past year, Roofclad has completed several contracts in the area at Matthew Charlton in Hexham where a roof over-cladding contract was undertaken.

New build works at Bridge End Industrial Estate in Hexham have also been made, involving new roof and wall cladding and a felting contract for Newcastle City Council at Hawthorn Primary School.

Work is also about to start at Dickinsons Furnishers Group warehouse in Prudhoe involving a strip and re-cladding of its walls.
