Armsons complete employer’s agent role on new headquarters for O. Heap fire and security specialists

Work has been completed on a project led by cost consultants, quantity surveyors and project managers Armsons and contractors Ivygrove Developments to create a new headquarters for O. Heap & Sons Fire Protection Engineers.

The project, for which Armsons provided cost consultancy and employer’s agent services, involved the design and build of a portal framed building of approximately 8,900 ft2 at the site on Belmore Way, Westside Park, near Raynesway.

5,000 ft2 of first floor offices were fitted out with mechanical and electrical works, as well as external works.

The company’s new headquarters now features a workshop utility area on the ground floor, which includes a canteen, toilet block, loading bay, offices and reception area.

O. Heap carries out a range of fire safety services, from the supply of simple extinguishers to the design and commissioning of complex multi-site alarm and emergency lighting systems.

The company runs fire training courses and fire risk assessments and has recently launched a full range of safety workwear. Its work spans every business type, across both private and public sectors - from retailing, manufacturing and transport to local authorities, hospitals, schools and airports.

Their new Derby headquarters will provide the company with more space to accommodate its current and future growth.

Commenting on the project, Nicholas Heap, managing director of the company, said:

“We’re delighted with the works carried out by Ivygrove Developments and Armsons here at our new Raynesway headquarters. The new site is just what we needed as we move into another phase of growth for the business.

“The new space here at Raynesway will enable us to extend our range of products and services further still and work with even more local and national companies.”

Jonathan Heath, director at Armsons, added:

“We’re very pleased with the outcome of this scheme. Our partnership with the contractors Ivygrove Developments worked well on what turned out to be a successful project.

“We hope O. Heap’s new headquarters will serve them well for many years to come.”

O. Heap & Sons was established in 1958 by Oswald Heap and now employs over 75 full time staff, including teams of dedicated engineers who service, install and maintain fire safety systems across the UK.

Armsons was established by Michael Armson in 1972 to offer specialist quantity surveying expertise to private and public-sector clients across the region. Over the past five decades, the business has expanded its service offering considerably in keeping with the changing face of the construction industry.

The firm has been involved in a series of award-winning schemes, including the transformation of the historic Roundhouse on Pride Park into a £51m engineering, technology and construction campus for Derby College, Glasshouse College – Ruskin Mill Land Trust, a College for young people with learning and behavioural difficulties, housed in the former Royal Doulton glass-factory in Stourbridge’s Glass Quarter and the 400 Hall, a flexible performance theatre for Repton Hall School.
