Entrepreneurial duo establish modular homes factory in Liverpool

Two entrepreneurs from Liverpool have established the region’s first dedicated modular homes construction factory.

The business, Ideal Modular Homes, operates from a 70,000 sq ft facility on Triumph Business Park in Speke where it employs 150 staff.

Operating 24 hours a day, the factory will have capacity to produce over 10 units per week.

Ideal Modular Homes was founded by Luke Barnes, who was previously a design engineer before turning developer, and business partner Graham Owens, a software engineer.

The duo established the company in response to what they identified as slipping standards in the modular construction industry.

They are working with the Buildoffsite Property Assurance Scheme (BOPAS) to ensure each of the homes they build meets their standards, which they said exceed current building regulations.

Speke was chosen as the site of the factory for its proximity to the motorway network, allowing Ideal Modular Homes to deliver units all over the UK.

Ideal Modular Homes’ offering includes a full in-house design service, with a team of architects and technicians allowing each project to be tailored to the individual clients’ requirements. The cost of the design service is later refunded to the client.

CEO Luke said: “While looking into modular homes for my own development projects, I found there was a big gap in the market as there were no constructors that offered the quality, deliverability and competitive pricing I was searching for.

“Using our manufacturing design experience, we began designing Ideal’s modular system which produces high quality living space at affordable prices – homes that people can be proud of.”

He continued: “We are looking to deliver at least 450 homes in our first year and are set to agree our first contracts in the next few weeks. By continuing to invest heavily in both our staff and our machinery, we will increase our efficient and within the next four years, we will be able to deliver at least 1,500 homes per year.”
