Construction underway on 54-home Salford scheme spanning three sites

City West Housing Trust, part of social housing group ForViva, has started work on 54 new-build homes for affordable rent in Salford.

The £5.1m development is located across three sites – two in Little Hulton and another in Walkden.

The first will deliver an apartment block, Rowan House, containing 36 one- and two-bed homes, along with eight one- and two-bed bungalows at Russell Court.

In Walkden, City West Housing Trust’s Whittlebrook scheme will provide 10 two- and three-bedroom family homes.

Th sites will replace outdated bedsit schemes demolished last year.

Russell Court and Whittlebrook will be developed by ForViva’s building arm, ForWorks. Rowan House will be developed by construction firm Strategic Team Group.

All three projects are designed by North West-based John McCall Architects.

The group’s director of investment and regeneration, Nigel Sedman, said: “Building new, high-quality affordable homes is one of our top priorities at ForViva.

“Schemes like this are key to tackling the housing crisis and giving communities a new lease of life, which is why we are planning to build hundreds more homes over the next two years.”

He added: “This new development will also create jobs for recently qualified local apprentices who are set to work on the scheme.”

The scheme is due for completion in early 2019.

City West will build a further 785 homes across Salford by 2020, under ForViva’s wider plan to build 1,200 properties in the North West.
