Silicon Valley investors back Altrincham software firm in $20m round
Cloud data integration software firm Matillion has closed a $20m (£14.1m) Series B funding round.
The investment was led by Silicon Valley-based Sapphire Ventures and included Californian firm Scale Venture Partners, a new investor in Matillion.
UK venture capital trust YFM Equity Partners, an existing investor, also participated in the round.
Altrincham-based Matillion will use the funding to grow its foothold on the cloud data integration market by expanding its sales, marketing, partnerships and research and development.
The round brings the company’s total funding past $26m (£18.4m).
Matthew Scullion, chief executive officer of Matillion, said: “This round of funding is an exciting opportunity for us to work with the fantastic teams at Sapphire Ventures and Scale Ventures Partners to meet the needs of our customers and partners as well as further accelerate the pace of innovation going into our products.”
Andreas Weiskam, managing director of Sapphire Ventures, will join Matillion’s board alongside Scale Ventures partner Andy Vitus.
Mr Weiskam said: “Matillion offers a truly differentiated product in a fast-emerging new category. Cloud-based data integration is being adopted by SMBs and large enterprises alike, constituting a large market.
“Matillion is well positioned to grasp this opportunity with a unique product set that is easy to adopt and has an intuitive UI and attractive usage-based pricing model.”
He added: “We are excited to work with Matthew and the Matillion team, to help them take the next steps in hiring, scaling and growing their US presence.”
Mr Vitus commented: “With the massive secular shift in data warehousing technology, the ability to connect various data sources to a central cloud repository is business critical and this is exactly the problem Matillion is solving.”
In addition to its Altrincham HQ, Matillion has a base in New York.
Matthew Scullion founded the business in 2011 with chief technology officer Ed Thompson and commercial director Peter McCord.
