Energy employees’ Easter collection supports Wearside charity
Kind-hearted staff at one of Wearside’s largest employers have come together to collect and donate dozens of Easter eggs, in support of a local charity.
Customer service advisors at EDF Energy Doxford, rallied around the office and their friends and family to collect and donate over 200 Easter eggs to Wearside Women in Need. The Washington-based charity provides vital support and advice to women and children affected by domestic violence.
The collection was organised by Nicola Robinson, who has supported the charity for several years through collecting Christmas presents for the children, as well as school uniforms and other much-needed items.
She said: “Wearside Women in Need is a fantastic local charity which is so deserving of support. Having worked with them for a number of years, I’ve seen the impact that small gestures like this can have.
“I am very fortunate that my colleagues are very supportive and enthusiastic to get involved with fundraising activities and things that will benefit the local community. As well as bringing colleagues closer together, we have collected over 200 eggs and seven bags of clothes for such a worthy cause.”
Nicola’s fundraising efforts were recently recognised in the ‘Going for Gold’ awards, a companywide initiative which rewards staff for going the extra mile in their spare time, through fundraising and charitable activities. Nicola received a gold award for her work with Wearside Women in Need.
Kevin Gatens, head of customer service at EDF Energy, said: “It is fantastic to see the continuous effort that our customer service staff put into fundraising activities and events, both locally and with our charity partner Breast Cancer Now.
“Wearside Women in Need do amazing work and it’s great that this relatively small gesture will make such a big difference.”
