Local nursery learn how houses are built at Durham development
Young pupils from Rainbow Hill Nursery, Durham High School for Girls have been on a tour of local housing development The Drive, where they learnt about how houses are built and the different transport vehicles that are involved in the housebuilding process.
Led by Site Manager Gary Hunt, the pupils donned their high-vis jackets and hard hats and were taken on a tour around the David Wilson Homes site. The group, aged between three and four were given talks on a variety of topics involved with the construction and housing development from the site team. As part of their visit, the class were shown the building stages of a house, and then were able to see the finished product, with the tour ending in a viewing of a David Wilson Homes show home. The class were also tasked with spotting as many construction vehicles as possible during their visit, and were encouraged to find out what their purpose was on a construction site.
Gary Hunt, Site Manager at The Drive, commented: “We always work to support the communities that we’re building in, to give something back and encourage more young people to consider a career in construction. It was a pleasure being able to help get first hand experience with their studies and it was great to see just how engaged they were throughout the morning.
Lesley Mock, nursery teacher at Rainbow Hill Nursery, Durham High School for Girls commented: “We’re very thankful for David Wilson Homes for letting us come for a tour of the development. It was a great addition for the class to get out and further what they have been learning about and Gary was brilliant at answering all of our questions.”
The Drive at Mount Oswald has a range of three and four bedroom homes available from £264,995. Located in the vibrant city of Durham this development is ideal for commuters and growing families.
