One year before Brexit: Prime Minister embarks on tour vowing the UK's future will be 'a success'

Today (March 29), Theresa May will travel across the country discussing the importance of Brexit to various people and emphasising that it should be a ‘success for everyone’.

Brexit will come into effect a year from today. Starting her tour in Scotland, the Prime Minister will visit textile workers at an Ayrshire factory, and then travel to Newcastle, meeting with a local children’s group.

She is said to finish the day in West London, where she aims to discuss the UK’s future with Polish citizens who have made the country their home.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Theresa May, said: “Today, one year until the UK leaves the EU and begins to chart a new course in the world, I am visiting all four nations of the Union to hear from people across our country what Brexit means to them.

“I am determined that as we leave the EU, and in the years ahead, we will strengthen the bonds that unite us, because ours is the world’s most successful union.”

The UK contains four proud and historic nations, but together we amount to so much more than the sum of our parts and our Union is an enormous force for good.

The Prime Minister went on to say that, as the country leaves the European Union, the government is ‘dedicated’ to the devolution settlements demonstrated through legislation.

She agreed that, as Prime Minister, she can’t make any new barriers with the country’s domestic markets because “they are absolutely crucial to our success in the future.”
