North Wales businesses invited to take free data protection advice

A leading employment law solicitor will deliver a talk on new data protection rules for businesses at a joint Institute of Directors (IoD) North Wales and Association of Chartered Certified Accounts (ACCA) Cymru Wales event.

Helen Watson, head of employment law at Chester-based solicitors Aaron & Partners, will present on the new general data protection regulation (GDPR), which comes into effect in the UK in May.

GDPR is one of the biggest changes ever made to data protection law, and imposes a maximum fine of €20million for businesses who flout the new rules.

The employment law guru will be on hand to explain the law update, and what businesses must do with their data to follow GDPR correctly.

Helen is a partner at Aaron & Partners, and is currently studying for a PhD in Employment Law.

Helen said: “Many businesses have had little involvement with data protection law in the past, but GDPR will change that.

“When the law comes into effect, organisations of all sizes must ensure they are handling their data correctly to avoid the risk of a potentially large fine.

“I’d urge any businesses who need to make changes or learn about the law to book on as soon as possible with tickets selling fast.”

The event, which is free of charge, takes place at the Optic Centre, St Asaph, on 23 April from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Delegates will also have the chance to network with other business leaders from the region.
