Peel Ports in long-term deal with global animal feed trader
Peel Ports Group has signed a long-term contract with global animal feed trader ADM Arkady.
The deal will see ADM Arkady, part of US-headquartered food giant Archer Daniels Midland Company, develop its Glasgow port facilities and expand its Northern hub in Liverpool.
According to Peel, the contract will enable ADM to consolidate its regional imports to better service markets in Scotland and the North of England.
It could see a combined throughput of one million tonnes of animal feed imported annually.
The contract will replace a previous agreement with grain and feed importer Cefetra Limited to handle its agribulk operations at King George V (KGV) dock in Glasgow.
Peel and Cefetra came to a mutual agreement not to renew the contract at KGV, following a review.
ADM Arkady managing director Graham Atkinson said: “These two new deals further strengthen the relationship between Peel Ports Group and ADM Arkady.
“Combining Peel Ports Group’s extensive port network and expertise in handling and warehousing together with ADM’s global supply chain makes an unbeatable partnership that will benefit UK agriculture in the coming years.”
He continued: “With the scale and efficiencies that these new port arrangements provide we are confident that we can bring the highest quality feedstuff products into the UK at prices that deliver best value to our customers.”
Peel Ports Group CEO Mark Whitworth commented: “Our long-term agreement with ADM Arkady is a welcome boost to operations in Glasgow and Liverpool.
“We are in the process of finalising plans for the storage and distribution facilities to accommodate ADM Arkady’s business model.”
He added: “With strategic port locations in the north of England and Scotland we are in a unique position to work with ADM Arkady as it continues its growth in the UK, helping create an efficient, more cost-effective supply chain for its products and customers.”
