HOMELESS CAMPAIGN GETS BOOST FROM HOUSEBUILDER

Two campaigners aiming to reduce homelessness in Swindon is the latest good cause to receive funding from a leading housebuilder.

Rachel Tucker, and her daughter Gemma George who launched Swindon Helping Hands late last year, have been awarded £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Wessex to help fund supported accommodation for homeless people.

The donation comes as part of Persimmon Homes’ hugely successful Community Champions campaign.

Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.

This also happens across Persimmon’s other 29 operating areas, with up to £60,000 handed out every single month, and more than £2 million donated since the scheme started back in 2015.

Rachel Tucker, founder of Swindon Helping Hands, said: “We are extremely grateful for Persimmon Homes’ support.

“Our team of volunteers are out every night giving out donated provisions to rough sleepers in Swindon. But it’s not just about being fed and clothed, we want to do more.

“We are currently fundraising to provide serviced accommodation, in line with the relevant support systems, and offer a stable home to as many homeless people as we can.

“Persimmon’s donation is a wonderful boost to our campaign.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “We fully appreciate how a home can be a safe haven and were very touched to hear about Swindon Helping Hands campaign.

“Rachel and her team are providing such a valuable support to Swindon’s homeless individuals. We hope our donation helps get a roof over the head of many more rough sleepers in the area.”
