100 MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC NEEDED FOR PERFORMANCE AT THE REOPENING OF MIDDLESBROUGH TOWN HALL
MIDDLESBROUGH Town Hall is preparing to throw open its doors in May, after a £7.7m refurbishment that has brought previously unseen areas of the Town Hall to life once more.
To celebrate the reopening, Middlesbrough Council have partnered with Southpaw Dance Company to create a spectacular dance performance piece that will take place all across the Town Hall, from the auditorium to the courtroom, the carriageway and the prison cells.
Southpaw Dance Company, known for their original, lively and inspiring performances, will perform Erimus, which takes its inspiration from Middlesbrough’s town motto, We Shall Be, reflecting the exciting future of the Town Hall.
But they won’t be doing it alone! Middlesbrough Town Hall and Southpaw Dance Company today put out a clarion call for 100 volunteers to join the show, to perform live at the Town Hall during the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The immersive theatrical production, designed to show off as many features as possible within the Town Hall complex, will feature local volunteers from across Teesside performing together to celebrate their Town Hall.
Robby Graham, Artistic Director of Southpaw, said: “We are looking for members of the public to sign up and dance with us. No dance experience is necessary, just an enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in and learn something new! All local participants will perform alongside professional dancers, and so it’s a fantastic opportunity to do something different.
“Erimus is set to be a spectacular experience. Five performances over three days from May 25 to 27 will create an unforgettable and uplifting experience for Middlesbrough residents of all ages, who will be the main users of the Town Hall’s facilities in the years to come.”
• Anyone wanting to take part in Erimus at The Town Hall should sign up here http://southpawdancecompany.co.uk/get-involved/erimus-weshallbe/ and register for the kick off event at Middlesbrough Town Hall at 6.30pm on 18th April
