P C Henderson Rustic Kits to Feature in ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’ TV Programme
P C Henderson has recently donated three of its Rustic 80 sliding barn door hardware kits to the award winning BBC One series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’ in a family home renovation.
Running for 18 years and attracting viewers of up to 5 million per episode, DIY SOS is the BBC’s flagship home renovation programme. The BAFTA nominated series aims to provide help and support to transform the lives of truly deserving families.
P C Henderson donated its products to the series’ most recent renovation which was a life changing project for Chris and Tara Morfey and their five children who live in Plymouth. The two eldest sons of the family, Ben and Josh, both have cerebral palsy and so the project aim was to provide the family with a disabled friendly, lifelong family home.
After struggling in their original multi-levelled home – and with insufficient funds to make it disabled friendly - the family bought an old wrought iron forge which was in need of renovation. The family started work on the renovation but unfortunately last year the couple’s daughter, Yazz, was diagnosed with Leukemia and so they were forced to place the renovation on hold.
A year later and the house was still unbuilt - with no hot water, heating, kitchen or a suitable living space meaning their severely disabled son Ben was living in residential care and Yazz receiving her life saving treatment miles away from the family home. Not only that but the couples youngest son, Vinny, had developed a heart murmur from the stress of being separated from his mum and living in a building site.
DIY SOS stepped in to convert the forge, originally built in the 1700s, into an open plan kitchen, living zone and medical storage area. The project aim was provide the couples disabled boys with as much independence as possible as well as a safe space for Yazz to recover from Cancer.
P C Henderson happily donated three of its Rustic 80 sliding door hardware systems to the project. Available in a matt black or a stainless steel finish, the product is suitable for internal wooden doors weighing up to 80 kilograms. Creating a traditional look, the beautifully crafted barn style hangers fasten down the front of the door to support the rustic finish.
Rustic 80 also holds the additional benefit of not taking up unnecessary floor space, as a traditional swing door would, whilst also providing a distinctive and easily accessible opening. Available as a kit pack format in 2 or 3 meter track lengths, the product is extremely easy to install with additional support available in an online installation video format to help guide customers through the process.
A number of skilled trade and suppliers donated products to the series in order to make it a success along with the fantastic team at DIY SOS: The Big Build. It is still yet to be announced when the episode will air but the team at P C Henderson can’t wait to see the finished project.
