GRAND SUPPORT FOR VOLUNTEER LITTER PICKERS
Volunteer litter pickers pulling together to keep their community clean and tidy have been handed £1,000 to support their efforts.
The Ingleby Barwick Community Litter Project has been given the money through Persimmon Homes’ highly successful Community Champions scheme and it will help kit out the volunteers with the equipment they need to do the job properly and safely.
One of the volunteers, Mary Wright, said: “We are a relatively new group, but already have 350 like-minded members on our Facebook page, all willing to offer time and support to clean up our area.
“We can do so much with this money and will spend it wisely and it will keep our enthusiastic members fully equipped to do the job properly and safely for a long time.
“On behalf of Christine Schietekat who set up the project and all the community involved in cleaning up Ingleby Barwick I would like to thank Persimmon Homes Teesside for this generous donation.”
Alan Hopwood, director in charge of Persimmon Homes Teesside, said: “This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change. We are pleased that we have been able to offer our support to such a community spirited organisation.
“We always receive so many applications for our Community Champions initiative. I really encourage any charities and groups looking for funding to apply to the scheme for their chance to receive up to £1,000 match-funding for their own cause.”
Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 29 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.
