Newcastle law firm edges into list of North East’s top M&A advisers

Law firm Hay & Kilner has edged into a list of the North East’s top 10 legal advisers for merger and acquisition work.

The Newcastle-headquartered company came eighth in the latest review of the region’s corporate market, from credit reporting agency Experian, after investing in its corporate and commercial team.

Hay & Kilner’s most recent M&A projects include advising on a management buyout at construction business P F Burridge & Sons; the sale of property company Van Mildert; family-owned motor franchise Wingrove Motor Company’s acquisition of the Peugeot dealership on Benton Road, Newcastle; and the management buyout and acquisition of Indigo Software (Holdings) Ltd.

Hay & Kilner also recently expanded its corporate and commercial team with the appointment of solicitor Ben Jackson, enabling it to meet a growing demand for its services.

The firm, founded in 1946, provides legal services to businesses and individuals in the North East and elsewhere.

Jonathan Waters, managing partner at Hay & Kilner, said: “Mergers and acquisitions of all sizes and values have long been a significant part of the firm’s work, but we’ve seen demand grow for our corporate and commercial law services, especially for higher value and more complex projects, and have been investing in the team to ensure we have the resources required to meet it.

“Breaking into the Experian top 10 advisers list shows the progress we’re making, but we feel we still have a lot of potential to realise in this area and will be looking to use this ranking as the foundation for further development.”

He continued: “The corporate and commercial team works with North East business owners and entrepreneurs on a wide range of different projects, from business and share acquisitions and disposals, through to corporate refinancing, MBOs and employee share option schemes, and has the skills and expertise needed to help our clients meet their personal and commercial objectives.”
