BBC MasterChef runner-up unveils launch date for new Leeds restaurant

Chef Matt Healy, runner-up in BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals, has announced that his new Leeds restaurant will open on Friday 4th May 2018.

Last month it was revealed that Healy was the successful bidder for the city’s Foundry restaurant, which has been a Leeds dining institution since 2005.

The renowned chef will call his new restaurant ‘Matt Healy at The Foundry’.

Following a purchase facilitated by Thomas Jackson, Senior Associate at Walker Morris, revamp work of the the Grade-II listed building has started with the interior design being spearheaded by Telegraph.

A new creative identity has been imagined by Aire Design under the theme ‘Food you can swear by’, and the front-of-house team will be led by Iain Silver.

Matt Healy, owner and head chef, said: “We’re so excited to give people a peek of what’s to come. The team has been hard at work creating an identity that really reflects what we’re offering: good, honest food.

“We’re creating a refined menu of incredible dishes, but I’m a typical Yorkshire lad at heart and those who know me know my choice of language in the kitchen can be a little bit rough around the edges. So, the tongue-in-cheek ‘food to swear by’ messaging we’re using is the perfect nod to what the restaurant will offer.

“We’ll be opening to the public from 4th May, in perfect time to make the most of our outdoor terrace over the summer months. We can’t wait to introduce Leeds to a new chapter of the iconic venue that is The Foundry.”
