FUNDS SUPPORT BID TO BUY LIFESAVING EQUIPMENT

A centre providing care and support for people living with multiple sclerosis has been handed £1,000 towards the cost of providing lifesaving equipment. Persimmon Homes South West has made the donation to help fund an automated external defibrillator for the South West Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, based at Clyst Heath, Exeter. The grant was made through its hugely successful Community Champions campaign. Tracey Skinner, for the centre, said: “We currently provide therapies, advice, guidance and support to people in the region diagnosed with MS and other neurological conditions. “We would like to purchase an automatic external defibrillator, which could potentially benefit our members. Research has shown people with MS have an increased risk of cardiovascular problems such as stroke or heart disease. AEDs strengthen the survival chain and can restore a normal heart rhythm to someone in sudden cardiac arrest. “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes South West has offered us this financial support.” Nina Hester, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes South West, said: “As a company we have enjoyed huge success over the last few years, and it’s great to be able to give something back to the communities in which we are working. “This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change.” The Persimmon Homes South West Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity This also happens across Persimmon’s other 29 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started in 2015.
