New bus service is just the ticket for growing community

A new bus route serving one of Plymouth’s fastest growing communities is proving popular with commuters and school pupils. The new route, which serves the Seaton Neighbourhood, is operated by Plymouth Citybus and is part funded by Persimmon Homes who are building the popular Palmerston Heights development. The service began on April 1 and serves businesses along Brest Road and William Prance Road, including the Land Registry and activity centres Adrenaline and Clip and Climb in Derriford providing a link from to Derriford, Mutley and the City Centre, with a Sunday service running through to Woolwell. Staff, parents and pupils at St Matthew’s School are also being encouraged to use the new service, which is timed with the school’s start and finish. Richard Stevens, managing director of Plymouth Citybus, said the new service is already showing a great take-up rate. He said: “We’ve seen a really good take-up on this service already since launching. Within the first 10 days we carried over 500 passengers from the new bus stops in the area. I am delighted that Plymouth Citybus is providing this bus service and that working with Plymouth City Council it has been extended through the evening and weekend, which is enormously important to residents.” Daniel Heathcote, director in charge of Persimmon Homes Cornwall, added: “We are pleased the bus service is already well used and we are confident that it will continue to provide a frequent and reliable service seven days a week to our customers at Palmerston Heights and to the wider community. “As part of the planning approval process, Persimmon Homes contributes significantly to the local community providing affordable housing, infrastructure projects, education, financial contributions and services, whilst providing much needed new homes.”
