This Newcastle entrepreneur is now expanding his business overseas
Newcastle-based scaleup, Weekend Box Club is eyeing European expansion after shipping its first boxes to Germany and Austria this week.
Having grown its existing business organically and exponentially since 2013, this opportunity marks the first in a series of international licensing opportunities, which will create jobs across the company’s two sites in Newcastle as well as on the continent.
The first Weekend Boxes to be translated into German and exported have already left Weekend Box’s Newcastle warehouse.
Andy Stephenson, Weekend Box’s founder, said: “We were delighted to be approached in late 2017 about possible licensing opportunities and have been keen to establish a test plan for European expansion which is now in play, less than six months later.”
He continued: “This opportunity alone will see us increase revenues by between 20-25 per cent over the next two to three years with the opportunity to create at least five new jobs in the North East through the process.
“We identified that the German-speaking market in Europe (across Germany, Austria and Switzerland) was actually larger than the UK market, so this seemed like the best logical step for us.”
Weekend Box recently launched a new Limited Edition Business Builder Box in conjunction with Gateshead charity, Traidcraft as part of its Hidden Entrepreneur appeal - another step towards Weekend Box’s plan to become a ‘market leader’ in branded subscription boxes.
