Construction of second phase of Brough Relief Road provides link to £200m development site

Construction work has been completed on the second phase of Brough Relief Road, which now provides a link to the £200m Brough South development on the south of the railway line.

An extension to Moor Road in the east of the town, the work was carried out by civil engineering company C.R. Reynolds Ltd in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Network Rail.

The work also clears the way for design work to start on phase three of the project, linking Brough Relief Road to the Humber Enterprise Park, to remove traffic from Skillings Lane and ease traffic congestion in the centre of Brough.

Brough South is a mixed-use residential, retail, leisure and commercial scheme being brought forward by the Horncastle Group PLC on behalf of the Brough South Consortium.

The consortium is made up of Horncastle Group PLC, local landowners and developers Alma Jordan (Builders) Ltd and Riplingham Estates Ltd and BAE Systems Ltd.

Ian Hodges, managing director of the Horncastle Group PLC, said: “Completing phase two of Brough Relief Road is a huge milestone in the development of Brough South. The scheme has included building a bridge over the railway line to connect Brough with the project site for the first time, which was a significant undertaking.

“It will enable the local community to readily access the new facilities and amenities which are to be provided as part of the Brough South development.

“With the bridge now in place, construction work Brough South can pick up pace, meaning residents will soon start to see this exciting development take shape.”

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, added: “The completion of the second phase of the Brough Relief Road is an important milestone in this £200m investment and will provide the necessary access for 750 new homes, a new primary school, health facilities, a supermarket, restaurants and new business units which will be developed on the 125-acre site.

“The council would like to acknowledge the work of local contractor C.R. Reynolds and the Horncastle Group on bringing this project forward. With the relief road now complete, it will be exciting to see the Brough South Development progress at pace.”

The development is being part-funded with a loan from the Homes England and Horncastle has worked with ERYC’s infrastructure team on the delivery of phase two of the Brough Relief Road.
