Housebuilder set to bring 860 new homes to the region

David Wilson Homes’ south west division is set to bring more than 860 homes to region in 2018.

The housebuilder, which has its south west headquarters in Bristol, will support close to 2,600 jobs as it does so, helping to give the local workforce and economy a boost.

The developments range from relatively small 74-home communities, to bigger garden village style developments with 183 homes and span across Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The seven new developments with launches this year are:

Patch Meadows, Somerton (150 homes) Mill Brook, Westbury (136 homes) Weston Meadow, Calne (83 homes) Sunningend View, Gloucestershire (74 homes) Birds Marsh View, North Chippenham (102 homes) Ladden Garden Village (183 homes) Great Oldbury, Stroud (138 homes)

The creation of the new homes will support hundreds of jobs including tradesmen, subcontractors and sales advisers. Most will be filled by local people, helping to support employment across the region.

Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “This is great news for the local employment market and what’s even better is that the benefits to the economy will be felt even after the developments are finished. Past experience shows us that the people who move into new developments tend to spend their wages locally, contributing to the economy even further.”

Last year David Wilson Homes brought £40.5 million in investment to the region through its developments. The figures, which form part of the company’s socio-economic footprint, show the housebuilder made more than £32 million of contributions to councils and into infrastructure and affordable housing for local people. It also found that the local economy benefited from £8.1 million of additional spending in shops and services from the residents of new homes they have built.

Louise added: “It’s rewarding to see that our new developments have a positive impact on the local economy as well as provide much-needed homes. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive effects that ripple out from these new developments in 2018.”
