Wasserman signs European Tour's Race To Dubai Leader Shubhankar Sharma
Current European Tour Race to Dubai leader Shubhankar Sharma has signed with Wasserman on a multi-year contract. At just 21 years old, Sharma recently won the Joburg Open and Maybank Championship, surging to the number-one ranking not only on the European Tour, but also on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and is the highest-ranked golfer in India.
A native of Chandigarh, Sharma is one of only a handful of international players ever to receive a special exemption into The Masters tournament this week. He will become just the fourth Indian player in history to compete in The Masters when he tees up at Augusta on Thursday.
“Shubhankar is a great talent and we are delighted to have him join Wasserman,” said John Mascatello, Wasserman’s Executive Vice President and Managing Executive, Golf. “Golf is a worldwide game and we continue to represent the best players from around the globe. His achievements in the last few months leave us with no doubt that he has the ability to achieve great things in the game and we are excited to play a part in his journey.”
Sharma will be primarily managed by Ian Keenan out of Wasserman’s London office. “It’s been a fantastic process getting to know Shubhankar so far this year,” said Keenan. “His on-course achievements speak for themselves, but he handles everything put in front of him so well and I can only see more success coming his way as he matures as a player.”
Sharma joins Wasserman’s elite roster of golf clients including THE PLAYERS Champion Rickie Fowler and former world number one Jason Day, along with a host of PGA TOUR and European Tour star players.
As a first order of business, Sharma has penned a multi-year agreement with sportswear giant Nike as a global golf ambassador, wearing the brand’s apparel and footwear during tournaments.
