Bridlington care home showcases out of this world investments

A Bridlington care home which provides care and support to adults with learning disabilities, has opened its doors to the public to showcase its recent investments.

Residents at Kirkgate House, part of the not for profit organisation Hica Group, recently welcomed their families and members of the public to demonstrate new technology investments and initiatives.

Visitors had the chance to experience some of the latest technology software and equipment with the help of tech-savvy residents, including virtual reality (VR) headsets, iPads and Amazon Alexa software.

The open day was also a chance for the residents to show the Hica Group’s latest initiatives, including Shimmy Shake and Shine and Playlist for Life.

Shimmy Shake and Shine is one of the Hica Group’s initiatives used to promote the importance of exercise and physical wellbeing, while Playlist for Life is a recent investment being rolled out across the Hica Group’s 15 care homes in Hull and East Riding.

Playlist for Life is a unique initiative which uses the favourite songs of individuals to ignite fond memories from their lives, while boosting their mood and engagement.

Julie Wood, manager of Kirkgate House, said: “Our open day was an opportunity for us to showcase the great range of new activities and technology being implemented across the Hica Group’s homes.

“It was fantastic to be able to welcome everyone to Kirkgate to see the facilities and the kinds of activities we run day to day. Our residents loved showing the visitors how to use the virtual reality sets too.”

The Hica Group, based in Hull, operates a portfolio of 15 care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. It also runs a homecare service providing approximately 11,500 hours of care and support from four regional offices in the North of England.
