Peg Digital’s Ride To Success With Nickelodeon

A North East gaming company is working on a large new commission for Nickelodeon UK.

Peg Digital has been working with the number one commercial kids network, for three years and is now working on phase two of Infinity Islands, a virtual gaming world which brings together popular Nickelodeon characters from its hit shows in a theme park setting. It is the largest single suite of web browser mini-games on Nickelodeon’s website and boasts a huge variety of gameplay.

The Infinity Islands concept was the result of close collaboration between Peg Digital and Nickelodeon UK and became an instant hit when it was launched with the first four mini-games in July, with further packs of games released in August and September 2017. Nickelodeon commissioned four more games for Easter 2018 launch - one new game for the existing four islands [Jungle, Volcano, Beach and Ice] taking the total to 16. One of the recently launched games features new Nickelodeon brand (I Am Frankie) to promote the new show.

Peg Digital is now working on its latest commission from Nickelodeon, which will launch this summer and feature a brand-new island (Alien Asteroid), bringing the total number of islands to five complete with 20 games. The new launch will also bring a new look, all new gift shops and swag players can unlock, as well as new brands and characters to play with.

Peg Digital co-founder Doug Charnley explained: “Infinity Islands represents a huge vote of confidence in us from Nickelodeon, who could have their pick digital agencies in the UK. This is one of their largest online game commissions to date, so it means a lot to us that we were chosen for this.

“It’s a really fun project to work on as we get to imagine how characters from some of the most popular kid’s TV shows would react on a day out at a theme park. Working with properties like SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House, The Thundermans and Henry Danger means that every idea is different and it allows us to be creative with playful game ideas – putting them in bizarre and hilarious situations!

“We’ve worked with Peg for the last three years and in that time we’ve had the confidence to ask them to produce increasingly ambitious content because of the positive and collaborative experience working with them brings. They find creative ways to bring humour to game play and have helped to create some of our best loved games,” Suzie Adams, Nickelodeon UK

Doug added, “Nickelodeon has been our biggest client for the last 3 years, consistently coming back to us for further collaboration. They’re a joy to work with as we’ve developed a fantastic working relationship involving a lot of trust and confidence in both directions.

“Our first commission from Nickelodeon was for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [Mega Mutant Battle project] in 2015. We sent them an interactive digital ‘carrier pigeon’ game as a tongue-in-cheek piece of promotion, playing on the fact that we’re from ‘the north’ to hopefully get a response from them - it worked! Once they engaged with us, I guess they saw the extensive work we had done for the BBC and got in touch.”

Peg Digital, based at Hoults Yard in Newcastle are specialists in designing browser based online games that work on any device. In addition to Nickelodeon, Peg also work with a range of other clients in the kids entertainment space.

The agency was founded by Adam Quickfall and Doug Charnley who both live in the northeast. The co-founders met whilst working for a web design company based in Newcastle.
