Trainline’s new predictive pricing tool helps users save nearly £9m
Digital rail platform Trainline has reached a new seven-figure milestone in helping users save money on train fares.
The London-based company said people have saved £8,822,510 since the launch of its Price Prediction feature seven months ago.
The tool, available on the Trainline app, has been used by close to two million people so far.
It assesses billions of journey searches in the UK to offer customers a snapshot of the available opportunities for saving money when buying tickets in advance.
Trainline’s data shows that people in London made the biggest total savings on rail journeys in the last seven months, knocking costs down by £1,973,639.
The West Midlands came second in a ranking of the UK regions, with savings of £701.4k, followed by West Yorkshire (£468.9k), North Yorkshire (£348k), South Yorkshire (£342k), Merseyside £312.7k), Tyne and Wear (£214.8k), Nottingham (£192.7k), Edinburgh (£178.3k) and Cambridge (£166.7k).
Fergus Weldon, the firm’s head of data science, said: “Advance rail ticket pricing can be complex, and customers may miss opportunities to save.
“Our Price Prediction tool tells customers when prices are likely to rise, helping them make savvier purchasing decisions. Saving UK customers nearly £9m is great to see and shows that technology has the power to really enhance how people travel.”
He added: “Our mission is to keep building innovations like Price Prediction that will help make travel as simple and easy as possible, all while saving customers valuable time and money.”
