HOUSEBUILDER DONATES £1,000 TO NEWCASTLE VET CHARITY

Leading vet charity PDSA has been awarded £1,000 to support its work helping Newcastle’s sick and injured pets. The cash was awarded to the charity’s Pet Hospital in Ponteland Road by Persimmon Homes North East through the company’s highly successful Community Champions scheme.

Newcastle PDSA Pet Hospital, which can see up to 193 pets a day and provides almost 70,000 treatments a year, relies solely on donations and the help of its supporters.

Michael Laing, client services manager at Newcastle PDSA Pet Hospital, said: “PDSA provides veterinary treatment for the sick and injured pets of people in need. The pet owners we see in Newcastle tell us how we have helped them and their pets through difficult times. “Our work goes beyond caring for pets when they are sick; we’re working to prevent this from happening in the first place. We are a leading authority on pet welfare and are committed to helping owners understand how to provide for the needs of their pets. “We receive no public or National Lottery funding and rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters, so a donation like this will make a huge difference to our vital service. “We are very grateful to have the support of Persimmon Homes in the North East.” Debbie Zaben, Persimmon Homes North East sales director, said: “This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change.” The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
