BUILDER OFFERS CANCER PATIENTS VITAL SUPPORT
A charity supporting cancer patients has been given a helping hand by a regional builder. Persimmon Homes Durham has given £1,000 from its Community Champions fund to North East charity FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together). Gill Pugmire, for FACT said: “FACT began as a volunteer group 10 years ago and is now a registered charity offing a range of services to benefit cancer patients and to support their families and carers. “Because financial hardship often goes hand-in-hand with a cancer diagnosis most of our services are free of charge, or heavily subsidised. We know that some of our clients struggle to travel to our main base in Gateshead and we are looking to expand. “We have new premises in the centre of Sunderland, but it needs to be furnished before we can get up and running. We need sofas and comfortable seating to create a relaxed and welcoming environment for our clients. “A grant of £1,000 makes a great difference to us and we would like to thank Persimmon Homes Durham for the support.” Christine Cooper, sales director at Persimmon Homes Durham, said: “We are pleased the Community Champions donation is going to such a worthy cause as FACT and hope that it will allow them to support more people through what must be a very frightening time in their lives must be. “The assistance FACT offers is priceless for cancer patients and their families and carers.” She added: “Our Community Champions fund allows us to donate up to £1,000 each to two good causes every month. “Persimmon Homes Durham has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month. “If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion. There is no limit to the number of applications that can be made.” Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
