It's good all round at Hull care home

A Hull care home is celebrating after receiving its latest inspection report from the Care Quality Commission, which showed they had received a ‘good’ rating in all inspection areas.

In the latest report published by the CQC, inspectors recognised the significant improvement to the services provided by Elm Tree Court, which has jumped from its previous ‘requires improvement’ rating to an overall ‘good’ rating.

The CQC assesses care providers in four key areas: is the service safe, is the service effective, is the service caring and is the service well-led.

Elm Tree Court, which is operated by not for profit organisation Hica Group, supports up to 72 people, which includes many people living with dementia.

The CQC praised manager Adam Ward and his team of 88 staff, saying: “The management styles of the registered manager and deputy manager were open, inclusive and empowering. The management team set good examples to the staff team with regard to attitude and approach, which meant staff had good role models to follow.”

Staff referenced the SHINE initiative, which underpins the Hica Group’s philosophy to make a difference to people’s lives, through activities, achievement and interest, helping to maximise the potential of both its staff and residents.

Inspectors acknowledged that Elm Tree Court had made both the required and suggested changes since the last inspection, citing improvement in all assessment areas.

The improved ratings follow the Hica Group’s recent investments – in continuous professional development, a new wellbeing initiative being rolled out across all 15 care homes, and further activities investment, alongside Adam Ward’s recent manager appointment.

Adam said: “We are really pleased with the latest CQC report and their findings. The hard work of staff, along with the ongoing investment in training, facilities, equipment and activities has been reflected in the new report, giving us the rating, we have worked hard for.

“Going forward, we will maintain the high standards of care and quality of life for our residents, but also ensure that we continually look for ways to improve so that we can achieve an outstanding rating in the future.”
