Newcastle's Lane7 scores new premises in Birmingham

Lane7, Newcastle’s upmarket bowling alley and alternative late-night venue, has confirmed its UK-wide expansion is continuing with the opening of a site in Birmingham.

The entertainment company says it will also have a Liverpool site open before the end of this year, and has confirmed plans for Durham, Sheffield and Glasgow openings over the next 18 months, making it the country’s largest independent upmarket bowling operator.

Lane7 Birmingham is due to opening in The Cube, the upscale 25-storey mixed-use development in the heart of the city, in August. This will be extending Lane7’s convention of only opening in prime city centre locations.

Lane7’s expansion into major cities across the UK will see the creation of around 300 full and part time jobs.

This will be in addition to the 150 people already employed across the group’s Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Aberdeen sites, to go along with Lane7’s operational headquarters in Darlington.

Lane7’s owner and founder, Tim Wilks, said: “Birmingham is the perfect next step for us at Lane7, the city’s people know how to have a good time.

“We can’t wait to get our bowl on with the Brummies and bring our own special twist to the thriving late-night scene in the city centre. As well as the bowling, we’re planning some very special and unique attractions.

“Adding Durham, Sheffield, Glasgow and Liverpool to our portfolio will further emphasise our commitment to become the UK’s biggest independent upmarket bowling and late-night entertainment venue.”

Lane7’s Newcastle site currently offers pool, ping pong, private karaoke booths, beer pong and mini golf together with its 10 bowling lanes situated across three floors.

The entertainment company has grown its reputation on attractions and are known to install pop-up style attractions that come and go within weeks, including the likes of mini golf; giant remote-controlled car racing rigs and retro-inspired arcade games.
