BUILDER BOOSTS YOUNG MOTORSPORT HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

A regional builder has given a cash boost to a Kelty teenager to help launch his bid to become the next Lewis Hamilton. Persimmon Homes West Scotland, which has its headquarters in Garthamlock, donated £1,000 to Dean Macdonald through its Community Champions scheme. The builder chose the young racing driver to receive its monthly match-funded donation.
Dean, age 17, has been racing since he was four years old rising up through the ranks in a similar way to Lewis Hamilton. He became the youngest ever Scottish Cadet Champion, won the MSA British Cadet Championship and the MSA British Grand Prix Championships. James Shields applied for the funding saying: “We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes West Scotland for supporting Dean. It’s not often that you get the chance to be part of the future of the world of Motorsport. “I first came across Dean over a year ago and was moved by his grit and determination to become a champion driver in what is a physical and gruelling sport. Sadly reaching these heights comes at a cost that is beyond him.
“Finding and developing Scottish talent is great for our country and I am very proud to be involved in helping him to raise the £100,000 needed to race in the British GT Championships in 2018.” Dean has progressed to the GT4 racing car circuit and has been given the chance to race in a newly developed Toyota GT86 car that is due to launch this year.
Doug Law, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “Supporting a budding Scottish talent like Dean is a fantastic opportunity. His success reminds us that with support, hard work and determination young people can reach for the stars. “We wish Dean the very best of luck for the future and hope that he raises the funding he needs to further his racing career.” Doug added that the West Scotland region receive many worthy applications every month, and urged charities who had not been successful to apply again. To nominate and to find out about the terms and conditions people can visit the Persimmon Homes website.
