Scorpions show they have a sting in their tail as promotion is gained
Newly promoted under-12 football team, Jarrow Scorpions, has put the bite on the opposition all season long, thanks to sponsorship from pipeline specialist, UTS Engineering.
Staff at the Jarrow firm, which has major manufacturing facilities in Jarrow and Newport, Wales, were in celebratory mood when the youngsters gained promotion to Division 8 of the Russell Foster Youth League. In a remarkable season, the team, which played with the UTS logo on its strips, won 13 of its 18 games and lost only three. The attack minded team scored 69 goals and a water-tight defence conceded only 21.
Community conscious UTS is a sponsor and supporter of a wide range of worthy causes and sports-focussed activities both in South Tyneside and across the North East.
This includes supporting charities that members of its staff are committed to, through to sponsorship of the rugby and hockey teams at Kings Academy, Tynemouth and the forthcoming V02 Max triathlons at Druridge Bay Country Park and Woodhorn Museum. At the same time the company is the long term club sponsor of UTS Dunston Fed, which plays in the Northern League Division 1 and famously won the FA Vase in season 2011-12.
Shaun Sadler, managing director, UTS Engineering, said: “Jarrow Scorpions is a team we know very well and we wanted to ensure they had an enjoyable season by providing them with sponsorship. Gaining promotion is great news and it shows to the youngsters that through hard work and dedication you can achieve your goals, which is good training for life.
“There is no clear strategy to our support of community causes and many of them are introduced to us via staff or connections that we have made. Giving back to the community is just a natural thing for us to do, it is part of our culture. We are grateful as individuals and as a business for all that we have achieved through hard work and tenacity and if we can help provide support for others who are trying to move forward, then we will do our best to help.”
The last 12 months has been a period of significant growth for UTS, which provides specialist pipeline manufacturing and services. This included the opening of a 50,000 sq ft facility in Newport, Wales, to meet increasing demand from its clients in the utility, industrial and commercial markets.
The company, which was established in 2001 by managing director, Shaun Sadler, invested £750,000 in the plant, which offers manufacturing, stock warehousing and service capability.
UTS produces a vast range of couplings, flange adapters and repair clamps for customers in the UK and export markets. Indeed, its unique selling point is having the capability to provide almost any product for the piping industry, to incorporate tailor-made solutions and to fabricate its products to suit any size of diameter and oval pipes, if required.
