Housebuilder helps residents at new development come together for the Big Lunch

Around 80 neighbours on a new housing development in Selly Oak got together to celebrate the annual Big Lunch thanks to a little help from their housebuilder. Claire Johnson moved to The Oaks, in Raddlebarn Road, late last year which is being built by Persimmon Homes Central. However, with the annual Big Lunch event taking place in June, she decided to launch her own party to help get the neighbours together. Persimmon Homes Central was happy to donate £200 which helped provide an ice cream van and soft play bus for the children on the day. The Big Lunch is the UK’s biggest annual get together for neighbours and aims to bring people together in the street to meet, greet and have a fun day. Claire, who has three children, said: “We had met some people on the development and had seen children out playing but we all have busy lives and have no way to meet. “I decided to host the event so that we could all get together, get to know one another and become a real community. It’s a lovely little estate and will be an amazing community once we all know each other, and this event was a huge step in the right direction. We thank Persimmon Homes for supporting us, as it not only benefits the current residents but also future ones as well.” Sarah Read, Head of Sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We were delighted to help such a wonderful gathering at The Oaks. We strongly believe in supporting the communities where we build, and it is great to see how the residents are coming together to create a vibrant community.”
