Pegasus Group chairman hands over the reins as he announces retirement
The Chairman of national consultancy Pegasus Group has announced his retirement after more than 40 years working as a planning consultant. Stephen Bawtree will hand over the chairmanship on August 31 to Jim Tarzey, one of the founding Directors of Pegasus Group based in the company’s London office. Stephen was part of the original Pegasus Planning Group Partnership, which was founded in 2003. He said: “Over a wide ranging and successful career, it is the success of Pegasus Group which continues to give me the most pleasure. “We have established, during the last 15 years, a hard-fought and well-deserved reputation as a leading independent consultancy operating on a national basis, providing robust advice in the fields of planning, design, environment, economics and now transport. “In handing over the chairmanship to Jim, I am delighted to endorse his tremendous energy, outstanding people skills, his professional acumen, impeccable sense of fair play and his commitment to the success of Pegasus Group. “I wish to thank all my colleagues and friends at Pegasus Group for their support; they make the company and I wish them every success in the coming years.” Jim has practised in the private sector for the duration of his career and has 30 years’ experience advising a variety of clients including landowners, housebuilders, developers, property consultants, leisure/retail operators and restaurants/bars. He said: “Stephen has helped to steer Pegasus Group on a very steady and successful course and I am honoured to be asked to take over the reins from such a talented and experienced chairman. These are exciting times for Pegasus Group and I am looking forward to helping the company continue to go from strength to strength.” In addition, Chris May, who joined Pegasus Group in 2004, will also be appointed as Deputy Managing Director. He has significant experience in project managing complex schemes, as an expert witness at inquiries, and local plan examination work. Chris adds: “I am delighted to be appointed as Deputy Managing Director and look forward to working more closely with Jim and Tony in the future to continue to build on Pegasus Group’s success.” Managing Director Tony Bateman commented: “Over the next year, we will consider opportunities for the company to continue its growth; both in respect of revenue growth, through further diversification and bringing in new work streams and office locations. These recent appointments will enable us to do this more effectively.” Samantha Kerby will continue in her role as Finance Director. Pegasus Group has more than 260 skilled and experienced staff operating from 12 offices across 11 locations throughout the UK. Their services span the entire project process from planning through to design and delivery, specialising in planning, design, environment, economics and transport.
