GCSE pupils in Manchester receive top career advice from Hays and Manchester City
As GCSE season has kicked off across the country, 20 Year 10 GCSE PE students from Alder Community High School recently received some valuable career advice as part of a joint initiative by recruiting experts Hays and Manchester City.
Hays is the Official Recruitment Partner of Manchester City and took the opportunity to run an employability session at the City Football Academy, the club’s elite training and youth development centre. The session aimed to give pupils valuable career insights as many look ahead to the next step in their education journey or prepare to enter employment.
Pupils were able to take part in an employability session prepared by Jenny Lampkin and Matthew Allen from Hays Education who demonstrated how pupils can write their first CV, and identify what skills they will need to consider developing for future employment.
Manchester City players Ella Toone, Pauline Bremer and Esme Morgan hosted a Q&A session with pupils and shared how they have progressed their careers to date, how they balance academic studies with their football careers as well as some exam revision tips.
Speaking after the day, Stuart Halliday, Curriculum Assistant at Alder Community High School said: “It was fantastic for our pupils to be able to experience the day at City Football Academy spending time with the Manchester City players and experts from Hays who delivered some great practical careers advice at such a pertinent time for the students.”
All 20 pupils also got the chance to show off their skills on the pitch as part of the day as they joined a football skills session led by coaches from the Club’s local foundation, City in the Community.
“The day was a great opportunity to provide pupils with practical advice such as CV writing, skills development and interview tips”, said Jenny Lampkin, Senior Business Manager at Hays Education in the North West.
“Pupils at GCSE stage are at such a crucial point in their development and it’s important they are armed with practical employment skills as they take the next stage into further education or work. Working with Manchester City on the day was particularly relevant for this group of students who study PE as they gained an insight into the types of careers available which perfectly match their interests in sport. We hope this will be the first of many employability sessions available across the region.”
Esme Morgan, Manchester City player, said “It was great to meet the pupils who were really engaged with what we were saying and clearly eager to learn new techniques to revise as well as getting advice on how they can balance school work with other hobbies.”
