Meet the mums behind pregnancy subscription service Dearbump

An entrepreneur in Liverpool is helping expectant mums with her new subscription box company, Dearbump.

Emma Jarvis, 28, got the idea for the business after being disappointed at the lack of products and information available during her own pregnancy.

She left her job at consumer goods giant Unilever in November 2017 to join forces with business partner Hannah Reeson, 26, and in April the duo launched Dearbump.

Emma, a chemistry graduate with an MBA from the University of Liverpool, said: “I have always been a big day dreamer, working out ways to do things better, or coming up with new ideas.

“As soon as women find out they’re pregnant the entire focus is on the baby, I thought surely women everywhere that are pregnant would be grateful of a gift in the post each month, especially one dedicated to their exact stage in pregnancy.”

She added: “My mind suddenly went into overdrive, I think I could have filled a hundred boxes there and then with items I would like to receive. I began to put pen to paper and map out how I was going to make this a reality.”

Dearbump’s subscription service provides women with a box of products every month, right up to their due date.

Speaking further, Emma said: “After mulling over my idea, I knew my friend Hannah would be the ideal addition to the business, a fellow mum and someone with great entrepreneurial spirit. Once Hannah was on board, we took our time to grow Dearbump, taking baby steps in way of research, branding, website building and designing all of the packaging.

“We conducted extensive research to find and filter through the market to find the best products for pregnant women and ones that were safe and right for each month that passed. We really wanted the arrival of the box to be a special moment for our pregnant customers, so we’ve been pretty picky!”

Dearbump currently works with more than 20 British brands, including Liverpool-based artisan bakery Coco Baroque and cosmetics etailer Freyaluna

Emma continued: “In our early conversations Hannah and I were both committed to working with other Liverpool-based businesses. There is such creativity in our city and we wanted to ensure that Dearbump gave very deserving and ethical brands further limelight.

“We are so excited to be officially launched now and sharing our ever-blooming business with women across the UK. As well as our subscriptions, we’ve taken time to create other boxes which are perfect gifts and a vegan specific range.”

Dearbump is based in Childwall.
