Spanish clothing marketplace celebrates ‘important milestone’ with UK launch
Online second-hand clothing marketplace Micolet has launched in the UK.
The Spanish company revealed its expansion this morning (June 13) alongside launches in several other European markets, including France and Portugal.
Micolet operates an online platform for buying and selling clothes and accessories.
The firm was founded in the Bizkaia region of Spain’s Basque country in 2015 by entrepreneur Aritza Loroño.
It said over 2,000 items of clothing arrive every day at its Erandio headquarters, where they are evaluated, ironed, photographed and published on the company’s website.
Following the UK launch, Micolet plans to extend its reach to Germany and Italy.
Micolet co-founder José María del Moral, who is leading the European expansion, said: “This is an incredibly exciting move for us, and an important milestone in Micolet’s journey.
“The UK second-hand clothing market is booming just now and we can’t wait to help people find that pre-loved hidden gem.”
He continued: “So many beautiful items are being accumulated and forgotten about in people’s wardrobes; with the majority being thrown away before they’ve had any kind of proper use.
“It’s our mission at Micolet to give these pieces a new life, and make the fashion industry more sustainable one garment at a time.”
Micolet employs 21 people. The company said a number of Spanish models, influencers and actors are among its users, including Ariadne Artiles and Cayetana Guillén Cuervo.
