New images unveiled of upcoming £60m ‘new concept’ Motorway Service Area in Leeds
New images of the £60m ‘new concept’ Motorway Service Area (MSA) at M1 Junction 45 to the east of Leeds have been unveiled.
Extra MSA Group, the owner and operator of Motorway Service Areas, received the main Approval of Reserved Matters consent for the project back in March.
This development is now under construction and will include a food court style facilities building with a business centre, fuel filling station and a 100-bedroom hotel, all operated by popular ‘brands’.
With the opening scheduled in Summer 2019, Extra MSA has released new CGI images showing the bespoke design for the exterior and interior of the food court style facilities building.
Andrew Long, CEO of Extra MSA Group, said: “Leeds Skelton Lake MSA will make a substantial contribution to Road Safety on this section of the Motorway Network, as well as setting new standards for MSA design and operation in the UK.
“Our vision is to create an appealing ‘new concept’ facility that will provide an excellent customer experience and wide choice of popular ‘brands’ and facilities in an attractive built and well landscaped environment. In addition, customers will also be able to enjoy the setting of Skelton Lake and the proposed Wildlife Visitor Centre inclusive of an upper-level 360 degree Viewing Deck.”
Andrew added: “We are delighted to share these new CGIs, endorsing the high-quality of the design for the overall MSA development in this important strategic location immediately adjacent to M1 Junction 45 East of Leeds.
“All arrangements for the construction are progressing well, including the Enabling Works and new Roadway for which works commenced in May as part of our overall Programme for opening Summer 2019.”
The first phase of construction work comprises a package of Enabling Works inclusive of site remediation and the construction of a new dual carriageway Road and Roundabout.
This infrastructure will serve both the MSA development and the new Templegate Residential scheme, which is capable of accommodating 1800 new homes. Phase two for the main on-site construction works will commence this summer.
The main construction works will comprise the food court style facilities building inclusive of the business centre facilities with a work station, business lounge and a range of different size meeting rooms.
This will complement the 100-bedroom hotel which is connected to the food court style facilities building.
