A walk down memory lane
Families are invited to walk in memory of loved ones and take part in this year’s East Lancashire Hospice Memories Walk. The four-mile walk will start and finish at East Lancashire Hospice on Saturday 7 July. The Memories Walk offers participants the chance to take part in a truly special evening to reflect on the people they miss. This year the Hyndburn Singers will be helping to lift spirits by singing as the walkers prepare to set off. Registration ahead of the event closes on Friday 22 June. Claire Clayton and her 10-year-old daughter Ebony from Shadsworth will be taking part in the event in memory of Claire’s grandma Ann Lomax, who lost her battle with cancer in October 2017, and uncle Mark Hughes, who also died of cancer in June last year. Claire’s mum Carole Hughes, younger sister Dana Ferguson and aunty Irene Henry are also taking part in the event. Claire said: “We just want to give a little something back as a thank you as these nurses truly are amazing thank you for the outstanding care you gave to our grandma and uncle when all of our hearts were truly breaking.” Claire set herself a target of £100 and has already raised £230 towards the cause. East Lancashire Hospice provides specialist, supportive and end of life care for patients and their families from Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley who are coping with a life-limiting illness. Each year the charity needs to raise £3.7 million. Each participant will receive a t-shirt, biodegradable heart shaped balloon on arrival and a candle bag to write the name of the person you are remembering. Entry is £15 for adults and £10 for children aged six and over. Michelle Walsh, a member of Hyndburn singers, said: “Hyndburn Singers support the East Lancashire Hospice because we believe that at the hospice you don’t count the days, you make the days count. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. If we at Hyndburn Singers can provide comfort by doing something we love then our voices have been heard.” Leanne Green, Event fundraiser at East Lancashire Hospice, said: “We would like to say thank you to our kind sponsors East Ribble District Freemasons, 2BR Lancashire, Hyndburn Singers, Sparkle Me Up glitter, Whittakers Butchers and Bako for their support with this year’s East Lancashire Hospice memories walk. We would also like to thank all of those people who have signed up to take part in the event in memory of a loved one. The memories walk is a fitting way to pay tribute to family and friends no longer with us.” To register visit www.eastlancshospice.org.uk/memories-walk
