Builder’s cash boost to support a drop-in centre

A regional builder has given a cash boost to a Fife drop-in centre to help them to create a radio show to break through the stigma of serious long-term mental health issues. Persimmon Homes North Scotland, which has a brand new development, The Old Mill in Markinch, just 10 minutes away, donated £740 to Barony Fife Contact Point through its Community Champions scheme. The builder chose the group to benefit from its monthly match-funded donation.
Barony Fife Contact point provides support and activities for more than 250 adults with ongoing mental health issues. The team work towards improving the mental health of the people that attend the drop-in centres in Buckhaven and Kirkcaldy and reducing hospital admissions. Contact Point service manager Billy Moyes, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Persimmon. It’s the final piece in the puzzle that will give a voice to adults with mental illness.
“We have raised more than £3,000 to help us to get our radio show off the ground covering the cost of kit including microphones, a mixing desk, training and software licences – we just needed laptops to help us edit and record our show.” The radio show has the support of Kirkcaldy FM, a local radio station that has promised to air the show and will feature work from people that use the services available from Barony Contact Point many of which are talented writers, poets and musicians. Iain Innes, managing director for Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “Creating ways to support and educate people about mental health issues is critical to the fabric of our modern society and we are very proud to help to fund this fantastic idea. “The people working at Barony Contact Point are extremely passionate in their approach to supporting people across Fife and we wish them all the best of luck with their radio show.” Iain added that they receive many worthy applications every month, and urged charities who had not been successful to apply again.
