Morgan Sindall wins £7.5m contract on 'prestigious' Royal Veterinary College building

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC), the UK’s oldest veterinary school, has awarded construction and infrastructure firm Morgan Sindall a £7.5m contract to assist delivering a multi-million pound refurbishment programme at its London campus.

The RVC’s Hobday Building, in Camden, is being given an upgrade to modernise the college’s teaching and communal facilities.

The refurbishment programme comprises new office and teaching space, research laboratories, and dining and communal spaces for staff and students.

The six-storey Hobday Building, on Royal College Street, is being developed in phases and will remain fully operational for students and staff during the refurbishment.

Work on the refurbishment is expected to be completed in late 2018.

The Royal Veterinary College was established in 1791 and later received a formal Royal Charter from Queen Victoria in 1875. Since 1949 it has been part of the University of London.

Richard Dobson, area director at Morgan Sindall’s London office, said: “We are very proud to have been appointed by the Royal Veterinary College to deliver a significant upgrade to one of its most prestigious buildings.

“The college is world-renowned for its research and expertise and this refurbishment will ensure that staff and students can work in modern, spacious facilities that are perfectly suited to the needs of modern science.

“Work is already underway and progressing well at the Hobday Building, which we will be delivering in phases to ensure minimal disruption to teaching. We’re looking forward to working with the college over the coming months to deliver this exciting project and handing over the fantastic new facilities later this year.”
