Taylor&Emmet appoints trio of trainees

Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is to launch the careers of three fledgling solicitors, after whittling down a field of more than 50 applicants.

Two of the three new starters will begin their contracts with the firm on September 3, whilst the third will start a year later.

Sabrina Raham and Laura Hardy are the first to join Taylor&Emmet’s trainee programme. They will complete four six-month seats in various departments, before deciding upon a specialism. Martha O’Toole’s contract will commence on September 2 2019.

Laura started work at the firm in March, taking up a position as a paralegal in the corporate department to gain valuable practical experience before her training begins.

The trio joins current trainees, Sam Sims and Oliver Simpson, who have impressed Taylor&Emmet so much, they have already been offered full time positions upon qualification in July next year, subject to continued good performance.

A total of 52 law students applied for Taylor&Emmet’s 2019 training contracts and applications for 2020 are still being received. In November, 20 people were shortlisted for Skype interviews, before an assessment day was held for the top eight candidates.

Sharna Poxon, Taylor&Emmet’s head of human resources, said: “Competition is fierce among those trying to secure a first step on the legal career ladder and we were hugely impressed with the quality of the applications we received. The firm has an excellent track record of retaining and nurturing trainees. In fact, many of our current partners started here in exactly the same manner.

“All three new appointments excelled at the assessment day and stood out for different reasons. They completed everything to a good standard, but most importantly, they possess the qualities we look for in all our solicitors – an ability to work well as a team and give due consideration to others’ ideas.”
