Bond Bryan to design 30,000 sq ft Innovation Centre on Kent Medical Campus

Architecture firm Bond Bryan is set to design a new Innovation Centre at Kent Medical Campus.

Maidstone Borough Council has tasked the company with creating a 30,000 sq ft collaborative space for high-growth-potential businesses in the healthcare, medtech and life science sectors.

Bond Bryan will finalise designs for the facility by the end of 2018, at which point a planning application will be submitted to the council.

Construction consultancy CalfordSeaden will project manage the development, located at Junction 7 of the M20 and due for completion by April 2020.

It will form part of the 30-acre Kent Medical Campus, a fully integrated centre of excellence for health, science and education within the North Kent Enterprise Zone.

Once open, the Innovation Centre will provide flexible serviced office accommodation along with meeting and conferencing space. It will also offer onsite business support.

Bond Bryan Architects director Zubin Masters said: “The Innovation Centre is a unique opportunity to bring together creative talent and foster an entrepreneurial community. As a Kent-based business, we are delighted to be involved in this flagship project in Maidstone which will play a vital role in the local and regional economy.

“Our approach will seamlessly link the offices and work spaces with the communal areas of the building, to deliver a sociable working atmosphere that fosters partnerships and enables businesses to share ideas.”

Zubin continued: “Internally, the building will be flexible enough to allow the layout to be easily adapted to suit the rapidly-changing needs of growing businesses, whilst externally, the Innovation Centre will have a distinctive and eye-catching design that serves as a destination point for users and visitors.”

Maidstone Borough Council Leader Cllr Martin Cox commented: “The council has been evaluating proposals to develop an innovation centre at the Kent Medical Campus and we are delighted to announce the appointment of Bond Bryan Architects and CalfordSeaden.

“The Innovation Centre is a clear statement of the council’s commitment to support the development of private sector commercial premises that will attract high-growth health and medical related businesses and employment opportunities to the borough.”

Bond Bryan has offices in London and Kent.
