Start-up Forwarder Overtakes £1m Turnover Mark in Six Months

An ambitious and privately-owned London-based freight forwarding company, headed up by experienced businesswoman Shatha Aziz, has hit the £1m turnover mark just six months after it launched.

FSC Oceans, a start-up which is headquartered in Fulham, is a team of 12 logistics experts with more than 100 years’ experience of their industry between them. The business’s USP is simple: to create and implement tailored, streamlined logistics solutions that deliver reliability and efficiency into their customers’ supply chains.

Within just months of commencing its operations, the team has already pushed through the £1m turnover mark and is well on its way to exceeding its £10m turnover goal by the end of 2019 through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Commercial Director at FSC Oceans Alan Hewitt, who has 28 years’ experience in international logistics having previously worked for both Kuehne + Nagel and RH Freight, said: “We’re thrilled that we have hit the ground running and attracted customers from across the globe as soon as we started trading.

“We’ve won business from a broad cross section of sectors, including retail, electrical and manufacturing, seeing enquiries and jobs come in from Asia and China as well as from across Europe. As a start-up, we’ve all had to get ‘stuck in’ to all aspects of the business - which can be challenging at times - but has certainly prepared us for rapid growth. The most enjoyable part of working for a completely new business in my opinion is our ability to make very quick decisions without the red tape and bureaucracy which comes as part and parcel of a larger organisation.

“Our short-term goal is to continue to increase our profits, while our long-term aim is to look at broadening the scope of our brand – potentially through acquisitions. We’ve found that customers are very receptive to us as a new business and that what has sealed the deal on many of our new relationships is our attention to detail, our combined industry experience and our focus on making sure each customer receives the very best care and attention to detail from start to finish on a shipment.”

Moving to the UK from Iraq in 2016, Managing Director at FSC Oceans Shatha Aziz brought with her 15 years’ experience providing multinational businesses with bespoke solutions. She’d already consulted her network in the UK and decided there was a gap in the market for a new start-up, so set about recruiting her team to launch FSC Oceans in January this year.

Shatha said: “I’m very proud to see my vision coming to life and I’m delighted with the figure we’ve turned over in a very short space of time. I think what makes us stand out as a team is our culturally diverse make-up and our combined extensive experience across a variety of sectors including automotive, FMCG, industrial, oil & gas, high tech, retail, drinks logistics and marine logistics.

“Our strategy from the word ‘go’ has been to work with customers in these sectors, of all sizes and complexity, building long-term relationships and setting up exclusive contracts with the world’s leading air, sea and road carriers thanks to our exceptional contacts and the long-standing relationships we have across the globe. I’m looking forward to seeing what the team achieves throughout the rest of this year and I’m confident we will hit our £10 turnover goal in the near future.”
