Further investment in Kilmarnock of £6 million
Leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes West Scotland has submitted its initial planning application to build 49 new homes in Kilmarnock.
The Garthamlock-based developer lodged the planning application with East Ayrshire Council this week 11th July to build a range of two, three, four and five bedroom new homes.
Located at Dean Road, in the north-eastern periphery of Kilmarnock, the proposed £6 million development would transform the 4.6 acre former sports pitch once the application has been determined by the Council. The planning application marks the latest investment in the area following the success of the Strathlea development just two miles to the south of Dean Road. Doug Law, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “Our commitment to investing and creating new homes in Kilmarnock remains strong. We have supported the Council in its plans to improve safety over the old Dean Ford through the sale of a parcel of land which formed part of the site for a nominal amount which assisted with the delivery of the new Dean Road Bridge.” The proposed development is on the edge of the Dean Castle Country Park and adjacent to Dean Thistle Football Club, a keen supporter of the proposed development. James Nimbley, Chairperson at the club said: “We believe this development will enhance the local area and make a remarkable difference to what is already a beautiful part of our town. “The club would like to give its support to this project and look forward to working with Persimmon Homes.” The proposals incorporate a provision of 25% affordable housing on-site along with the creation of a new all-weather 7-a-side sports pitch which would be incorporated into Dean Thistle’s existing facility adjacent their pavilion. The development will also help support 196 jobs, including direct staff, contractors and the wider supplier network. Doug added: “The entire area is subject to ongoing improvement and we are keen to create homes that meet the needs of the current housing market and enhance the beautiful surroundings.” For more information about the current homes available at Strathlea in Kilmarnock, visit the Persimmon Homes website.
