Waste shredding company expands into former Yodel site in Sheffield

Confidential waste shredding, archiving and recycling firm Russell Richardson is tripling its Yorkshire footprint with a move to new premises in Sheffield.

The company will move its whole operation to a site in Tinsley providing 30,000 sq ft of warehouse, office and yard space.

The Park House Lane facility, secured on a seven-year lease, is located on the Rotherham-Sheffield border. It was previously occupied by delivery giant Yodel.

Russell Richardson will move its 22-strong team to the new premises in a phased relocation over the next four months, allowing it to avoid operational downtime.

The firm said the biggest task will be moving its 14-tonne shredder. Acquired 18 months ago, the machine is capable of processing up to 200 tonnes of waste paper and materials a week.

Managing director Jonathan Richardson said: “Attercliffe has been a great location for us logistically and when we set up our site here eight years ago we never dreamed we could outgrow it.

“But work is coming in at such a rate, our 13,000 sq ft warehouse and yard are no longer big enough.”

He continued: “The company has recently taken on three new employees and purchased a £30k reel splitter and three new collection vehicles, including a mobile shredder and an articulated lorry capable of transporting up to 26 tonnes of waste paper.

“Now we need a future-proof new home to house us as we grow further in years to come.”

Russell Richardson, now in its 40th year, plans to secure a neighbouring property to house its secure document storage service.
