Birmingham junior football club receives cash boost towards new stand

A regional housebuilder has given a £1,000 donation to help a Birmingham-based junior football club rebuild its stand. Rubery Juniors FC was chosen by Persimmon Homes Central to become one of its Community Champions. The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for a match-funded donation of up to £1,000. The club, which was founded in 1987, has launched a campaign to build a new stand at its Baytree Farm grounds, in Wythall. The grassroots club, which caters for children aged four to 16 years, also wants to buy new grass cutting equipment. Kelly Sewell, spokeswoman for the club, said: “We rely massively on donations, sponsorship and fundraising and have already carried out fun days, tournaments and approached local businesses for sponsorship. “We are absolutely over the moon that we have been chosen to receive the money to rebuild our stand. This will enable us to make our home ground a more attractive and safer place for the children to play.” Sarah Read, Head of Sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “As a company that is bringing new homes to Birmingham, we believe it is important to support the local community and are delighted to be able to back Rubery Juniors FC in this way. It is clear the club has a great history and a real vision for the future. “If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
