Cash boost for cancer support charity
An Oxford-based charity that supports people with cancer and their loved ones has been gifted £1,000 from Persimmon Homes.
Maggie’s Oxford, based at Churchill Hospital, provides emotional support for patients, friends, family and carers who have been impacted by cancer.
It is a self-funded service offering free counselling, classes, workshops and a safe space for people affected by the disease across Oxfordshire.
The charity was awarded the money by Persimmon Homes Wessex as part of the company’s Community Champions scheme. It is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match cash they have already raised themselves.
Claire Marriott, Centre Head at Maggie’s Oxford, said: “We understand that cancer and life-threatening conditions can be overwhelming. A life-threatening diagnosis affects relationships, financial stability and emotional health.
“Offering a programme of support has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. We receive no governmental or NHS funding and solely run on the kind donations and support of our local community.
“The donation from Persimmon Homes is a huge boost for us and helsp keep our service going.”
Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex added: “Maggie’s Oxford is such an important outlet for people around our area at a very vulnerable time in their life.
“They work incredibly hard and offer a huge amount of compassion and we wanted to help keep this essential service going. We’re honoured to contribute to a fantastic cause.” Persimmon Homes Wessex is currently building across the Oxfordshire region. For more information, visit: www.persimmonhomes.com
