GRAND GESTURE FOR ESSEX PRIMARY SCHOOL
An Essex primary school is set to improve its playground after receiving a grand donation from an Essex housebuilder.
Thaxted Primary School has been awarded £1,000 as part of the Persimmon Homes Essex Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding initiative seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.
Thaxted Primary School will use the windfall to buy equipment that will enhance the playground for the pupils aged between five and 11 years old.
Mrs Hughes, headteacher at the school, said: “We are thrilled to receive such generous funding from Persimmon Homes Essex, which will help go towards developing a safe and pleasant area for our children to play and learn.
“Our playground is in desperate need of re-developing, as the area is used constantly by children for P.E lessons, playtime, outdoor learning and fundraising events such as our summer fayre.
“We want to offer the children the opportunity to enjoy more outdoor experiences all year round and this funding will help us to achieve that goal.”
Phil Standen, managing director at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “This month we are proud to be supporting Thaxted Primary School with their fundraising efforts.
“We hope the new playground will be enjoyed by generations of pupils to come.
“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions, but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the county have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
