Housebuilder helps London group provide weekend retreat for disabled youngsters

A regional housebuilder has donated £1,000 to help a London-based group take 55 children with disabilities on a weekend retreat. Shabaton L’menucha Trust received the donation from Persimmon Homes North London through its monthly Community Champions scheme. The builder chose the group to benefit from its match-funded donation.
The charity was formed to help children with physical, mental and emotional disabilities by providing them with educational, recreational and social opportunities as well as respite care. The group, based in City Road, is currently fundraising for its Take a Break weekend in September which will see 55 children, aged four to 18 years, enjoy a trip to Lincolnsfield Children’s Residential Centre in Bushey. Pearl Levin, spokeswoman for the Shabaton L’menucha Trust, said: “The retreats are always very popular. We are taking 55 trained volunteers who will provide 1:1 attention with activities including singing, dancing and swimming to help improve motor skills as well as social and independent living skills. “We have a very positive reputation and track record in the community for delivering these projects. The children, their parents and carers have reported improvements in their social skills and reduced isolation. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for supporting us in this way.” Damian Seddon, director-in-charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are delighted to be helping such a worthwhile project that will clearly make a difference to many children. “If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again this year and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
