Stagecoach Driver Swaps Bus For Beating Cancer

A bus driver from Liverpool has stepped out from behind from the wheel and got her running shoes on to raise money for Cancer Research UK

Lorraine Gavin, 41, who works for Stagecoach Merseyside ran Liverpool’s Race For Life 5K earlier this month in memory of her aunt who passed away from lung cancer.

With an original goal of raising £500, Lorraine has now smashed her target, earning over £1,500 following generous donations from her co-workers.

Lorraine has worked at Stagecoach’s Gillmoss bus depot for over three years. Stagecoach Merseyside bosses sponsored Lorraine and donated £250 to the cause.

She said: “I am over the moon with how much I’ve raised. I want to take this opportunity to thank all my friends and colleagues who have been so generous with their donations.

“It means a lot to me to have their support. It was a difficult challenge, tougher than I imagined, but it was a fantastic feeling to get over the line.

“Cancer is something affects everyone – whether it’s someone who has it or just someone you know – I just want to do my bit to help others and one day, beat cancer altogether!”

Rob Jones, managing director at Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “Well done to Lorraine for overcoming her own personal hurdle. Here at Stagecoach we want to support all our drivers to achieve their own goals. It is an incredible cause and one we were more than happy to support.”
